The Desert Journey:

Santiago joins a caravan crossing the Sahara. Along the way, he meets an Englishman studying alchemy. They both seek the legendary alchemist living at the Al-Fayoum oasis.

Al-Fayoum Oasis:

At the oasis, Santiago meets Fatima and falls in love. He also encounters the alchemist, who becomes his mentor. The alchemist teaches Santiago about the Soul of the World and the importance of pursuing one's Personal Legend. He urges Santiago to continue his journey to the pyramids.
